A modern home, layered with brass.

Brass does not belong only to traditional interiors. We love seeing it in spare, modern rooms, where a few warm pieces do all the work. Some notes on layering it without tipping into theme.

Start with restraint.

In a modern room, a little brass goes a long way. One urli on a console, a pair of candle holders on the mantel, a single vase on a shelf. The eye wants somewhere to rest, not a collection to count.

Let it be the warm note.

Modern interiors lean cool: concrete, pale wood, white walls, black metal. Brass is the counterweight. It brings warmth to a room that might otherwise feel flat, without needing colour.

Mix old shapes with clean lines.

A traditional hand-hammered form looks its best on a simple, contemporary surface. The contrast is the whole idea. Heritage shape, modern setting.

Group by tone, not by origin.

When you do gather a few pieces, group them by colour: a cluster of warm golds, or a mix of brass and darker bronze. It reads as intentional rather than collected at random.

Give each piece room.

Negative space is what makes a single object look considered. Resist filling the shelf. Let one beautiful thing carry the corner.

Layered with a light hand, brass makes a modern home feel lived in and warm, which is harder to buy than it sounds.
